Sami Leino

Man. Artist. Wilderness wanderer. Photographer. Traveller of Lapland. Author. Philanthropist. Father.

Seasoned artist Sami Leino draws the themes of his work from nature, Finnish history, and his own life experience. His paintings and writings often move in melancholic tones, exploring the darker moments of life. Despite the darkness, his works always convey hope, love, and the resilience of the human spirit.

Leino’s art invites the viewer to reflect on their relationship with life and death – and on the mark we leave behind for future generations.

Nimettömän kylän asukkaat

“Human beings have a soul, and the soul has a purpose. Welcome to the realm of souls — a world governed by religions and laws, by what exists and what does not. A place where nature, symbolism, mythology, and ancient beliefs converge, passing through the purifying fire of Christianity.

Revelations
The fire rose to great heights, driving before it black, blazing smoke toward the sky. It was as if I were witnessing a blinding sunrise after a long darkness, the brightness twisting grotesquely into the blood-red layers of smoke. And at the heart of that radiance, I saw a winged figure descending from the heavens. Human in form—yet something altogether different. The figure’s metallic wings spread across the sky, and black blood rained down as it fell toward the earth.
Temple of Forest
An immense painting covered the entire end wall, depicting the crucified Jesus rising toward the heavens. Above the work, words were carved in Latin: He watches over the path of the righteous; He guards the journey of the faithful.”
Farewell
Remember this: in the end, there is only you. No one left to blame. No excuses. Nothing and no one to hide behind. There is only you and your actions. You cannot appeal to time or inaction, nor to words you could not say—nor to the words you did not have time to say. When you wish to forget me, bury what I gave you. I held your hand one last time, my eyes closing with exhaustion, and whispered to you for the final time: I love you
